Once you've selected the closest
stock color match from our site, apply the touch-up marker along the grain and
wipe off any excess. For deeper scratches where wood is missing, fill the gap
first with a wax fill stick in a matching tone, level it flush, then color over
the top with the marker to blend. To be extra safe — especially in high-wear
areas — finish with a clear aerosol topcoat in the matching sheen. Not
absolutely necessary, but it extends the life of the repair.

Fill sticks and wax sticks are
the same thing — soft, wax-based crayons used to fill in dents, nail holes, and
shallow gouges where wood material is missing. Touch-up markers are color-only,
designed to recolor surface scratches, scuffs, and worn edges where the finish
is damaged, but no material is missing. Many repairs use both together: fill
the void first, then color over the top.

Use a marker when the damage is
just on the surface — light scratches, scuffs, worn edges. Use a fill stick
when material is actually missing — nail holes, dents, chips. Many repairs use
both: fill the void first, then color over the top with a marker in a matching
stock color. To be extra safe, you can also follow up with a clear aerosol
topcoat — not required, but it extends the life of the repair, especially in
high-wear areas.

On real wood, the marker absorbs
slightly and blends naturally. On laminate, melamine, and thermofoil, it sits
on top of the surface, so the color may look slightly different at certain
angles. Apply in thin layers and a clear topcoat helps even out the sheen.

Our products are formulated for
wood and wood-finish surfaces. Standard wood touch-up markers may not bond
properly to leather, vinyl, or metal. If you need touch-up for one of those
surfaces, contact us — we can advise on the right product type or formulate a
custom match for your substrate.

Browse our stock color library
and compare options to your finish. If you're between two colors, order both as
samples and test them on an inconspicuous area before committing to a larger
size. If nothing in stock comes close enough, our custom-match service can
formulate to your exact finish.

Stock colors are formulated to
closely match common manufacturer finishes. For most repairs, the touched-up
area won't be noticeable from 3–5 feet away — which is normal viewing distance
for cabinets, doors, and millwork. Up close, an exact match isn't guaranteed
because wood absorbs stain differently between species and boards, finishes
shift over time, and lighting affects how color reads. If you need a guaranteed
exact match for warranty work or production touch-up, our custom-match service
is the right path.

Surface scratches usually only
need a touch-up marker in your closest stock color, applied along the grain.
Deep gouges need a two-step repair: fill the void with a wax fill stick in a
matching tone, level it flush with a plastic card or putty knife, then color
over the fill with the marker to blend it into the surrounding finish. To be
extra safe, finish with a clear aerosol topcoat — not necessary, but it extends
the life of the repair.

Stored at room temperature with
caps tight, markers and fill sticks have a long shelf life. Heat is the main
enemy — products left in a hot truck or attic degrade much faster than ones
stored indoors. If a marker tip dries out, it's time to replace it.

Not necessary for most low-wear
areas like cabinet boxes or side panels. For high-wear areas — cabinet edges,
drawer fronts, table tops, stair treads — a clear aerosol topcoat in the
matching sheen protects the repair, evens out the sheen, and extends its life
significantly.

Yes. Wax fill sticks don't
harden — they stay soft after application, which means they'll smear, collect
dirt, and fail without something locking them in. After leveling the fill
flush, seal it with either a touch-up marker in your matching stock color (which
colors and locks the fill in one step) or a clear aerosol topcoat in the
matching sheen. For high-wear areas, use both: marker first to color and seal,
then a clear topcoat over the whole repair for durability.

Send us a physical sample of the
finish you need to match. Our team uses spectrophotometer readings and
finishing expertise to develop a formula, then ships you a sample for approval.
Once approved, the formula is filed and can be reordered for repeatable color
across future runs.

A physical sample of the
finished surface — drawer front, door, cutoff, or finished panel. Roughly 3
inches by 3 inches minimum. Include the manufacturer name, finish name or code
if you have it, and the product type you need (marker, fill stick, aerosol).
Use the Send a Panel form to start your request.

Custom-match turnaround varies
depending on the complexity of the finish and current queue. Heavy glazes,
multi-step finishes, and metallics take longer than standard stains. We'll
confirm timing when we receive your sample. Rush options are available for
production deadlines.

Yes. We regularly match colors
from Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, ML Campbell, Valspar, Behr, PPG, and
other major brands. If you have a manufacturer name and color code, send it
with your request — that gives us a starting point. A physical sample of the
finished surface still produces the most accurate match.

Minimums depend on product type
and order size. Contact our team with details on what you need finish type,
product format, and approximate volume and we'll quote pricing and minimums
for your situation.

Most installers carry markers in
their most common stain and paint colors, a few wax fill sticks in matching
base tones, a plastic card for leveling fills, and a clear topcoat aerosol in
matte and satin. We offer pre-built installer kits and can build custom kits
matched to the finishes you install most.

Standard shipping delivers in
5–7 business days. Express shipping delivers in 2–3 business days. Free
standard shipping on orders over $50. Custom-matched orders ship after the
formulation is complete.

Stock products in unused,
unopened condition can be returned within 30 days for a refund. Custom-matched
products are non-returnable because they're formulated specifically for your
finish. If a custom-matched product doesn't match the sample you submitted,
we'll rework the formula at no charge.
